Thank you for joining us today, Stefan.

Q1: Stefan, with your extensive industry expertise, we are eager to hear your insights on the current major trends and expectations in the payouts landscape within the affiliate marketing sector.

Thank you for having me, Rubi.

Many “legacy” programs and networks continue to rely on outdated payout methods from a decade or more ago when most traffic was driven organically by individual webmasters operating on a Revshare basis. Despite significant advancements in tools and technologies, numerous companies remain stuck in the past with their payout processes. Today’s affiliates are typically media buyers or larger enterprises that require consistent cash flow management.

A monthly payout schedule is no longer competitive. Affiliates are increasingly turning to networks that offer more frequent payouts, with some networks providing weekly payouts, and even daily payouts for their long-term, trusted partners. Additionally, a substantial number of new affiliates lack traditional bank accounts or cannot use PayPal, rendering classical programs unable to accommodate them. Consequently, alternative payment methods such as new digital wallets and cryptocurrency payouts have emerged.

From an accounting perspective, managing payouts independently poses a significant challenge for programs. The demand for faster and more diverse payout methods cannot be effectively addressed manually. Implementing automated solutions for these issues is as crucial as having competitive offers and a top-notch affiliate management team.

Q2: How will the shift to faster, more flexible payouts impact the affiliate marketing landscape? Do you foresee network consolidation or new agile programs emerging?

A new program is inherently more agile than an existing one, as its structures and workflows are still flexible, and the team typically exhibits less resistance to change. Newly established companies often have a smaller workforce, with founders handling multiple roles, including affiliate payouts. If this task isn’t automated, it can detract from their focus on growth.

Conversely, established programs face lower barriers to implementing alternative payout methods since many of their existing solutions already offer these features; it just requires verification with support. Unfortunately, frequent payouts are not always feasible, particularly for new programs or networks, which often suffer from cash flow issues and a lack of trusted affiliates and advertisers.

Q3:  If you could provide one key piece of advice to the Manager of an Affiliate program/network  for effectively managing mass payouts to affiliates, what would it be?

Conducting a comprehensive survey is essential. While educated guesses and discussions with key partners provide some insights, a well-structured survey offers a more precise and summarized view. It allows you to identify preferred methods and uncover other relevant topics. Ensure the survey includes open-ended questions. For instance, the last “Masters in Cash” survey revealed that several affiliates mentioned CC2CC, a solution we had not previously considered. This feedback helps pinpoint which partners provide the desired solutions.

Avoid basing your decision solely on cost. Integrating the system into your workflow is a critical factor and, for us, it was significantly more important than costs. The most crucial element is partnering with a reliable and trustworthy organization. Managing financial transactions should not be entrusted to inexperienced individuals who offer low rates and rely on superficial sales tactics. Instead, prioritize partners with exceptional and responsive support.

Q4:  To conclude our discussion, how do you envision emerging technologies, such as AI and machine learning, shaping the future of affiliate payouts and program management?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) significantly enhances the detection of patterns in affiliate traffic. Its capabilities extend beyond identifying sophisticated fraud cases to uncovering opportunities for optimizing payouts at a sub-source level for affiliates. AI transcends traditional data analysis by augmenting data interpretation, revealing intricate patterns that are often imperceptible to humans. Advanced tools now provide text-based interfaces, streamlining the data retrieval process. Instead of manually applying filters and navigating multiple dashboards, users can simply query: “Show me all affiliates with sub-IDs that converted on this landing page between time X and Y with a specific conversion rate and a minimum ARPU of Z.” As an additional command the AI can suggest and direct a custom payout for each partner.

In addition to financial optimization, the future of AI in affiliate marketing includes the integration of chatbots to manage basic communications with affiliates. These chatbots can efficiently notify affiliates when caps are reached and suggest alternative offers, enhancing overall operational efficiency and affiliate engagement.
